Parenting/Mentoring

If the children truly are our future, and they are not aware of the astronomical impact that we have on our environment, than the future could be a scary thing to behold. As parents and mentors, it’s our responsibility to educate and impassion them about the world and their responsibility for it. Although it’s important to teach kids about saving the planet as a whole, it’s easiest to show them how by the little things that can be done every day at home to help with the environment

You are absolutely right – education starts at home. Parents can give their children the gift of showing them how they can impact the future environment in a positive way. As you say, it will ultimately be the responsibility of our growing children to help better an already deteriorating situation. Let’s get parents on this blog so that they can gain the knowledge to pass down to the generations to come. Thanks “Who Knew” for the creation of a much-needed blog. Awareness is key!

The new administration can, I think, be counted on to support early education and awareness of environmental issues. This could even take the form of targeted funding or grants to school systems who practice environmental conservation such as creating innovative heating/cooling systems in their buidings. These can then provide teachers with material for practical explanations of actual efforts that are making a difference.
There also should be specific environmental awareness lesson plans emanating from text books devoted to this subject just like math, social studies, or English for students from elementary school on up.
